War and as Monuments and Fine Arts Officer 1944-45. His experiences recorded in Normandy Diary, 1952. After War offered Corsham Court to Clifford Ellis as home for BAA. Methuen believed the influence of the environment to be of great importance to both pupils and staff and that Corsham Court with its important art collection, historically interesting architectural details and grounds was ideal: he also believed that other large country houses should be put to such use. Corsham Court was opened to the public (until present). Methuen lived in wing of the Court, while the Ellises lived on the top floor. He pursued his interests in botany, gardening, restoring his estate and painting. 1952-59 member of Fine Art Commission. 1959 Royal Academician; 1973 retrospective and 1975 Memorial exhibition, Fieldbourne Galleries. 77 A Street in Bath oil on canvas 19½ x 15½ inches signed Exh: The Leicester Galleries, 1936 (no. 29/33/34?) 78 Lansdown Place, Bath 1951 oil on board 12½ x 15½ inches signed, inscribed and dated (verso) Exh: New English Art Club, 1965 (3); Lord Methuen Retrospective Exhibition, May-June 1973 (30) 79 The Bath House, Corsham Court oil on board 21 x I5 inches signed and inscribed (verso) Exh: Recent Paintings by Lord Methuen.
