          Lord Methuen (Paul Ayshford) 
          1886-1974 
           
           
           
          Born at Corsham Court. 1910 graduated New College, 
          Oxford (Natural Science). Studied Ruskin School of Drawing, 
          Oxford. Assistant to Transvaal Museum, Pretoria until 
          outbreak of War in 1912. Served Royal Wiltshire Yeomanary 
          and Scots Guards. 1915 married Norah Hennesy. 1927 
          joined Sickert’s classes, 1 Highbury Place, Islington. 1928 
          first one-man exhibition, Warren Galleries, subsequent one- 
          man show Leicester Galleries, among others. 1932 became 
          fourth Baron Methuen. Met Clifford and Rosemary Ellis 
          shortly after their arrival in Bath (1936) through The Bath 
          Society of Artists (President 1945-60, Chairman 1945-51). 
          Member NEAC, from 1943. Trustee of Tate and National 
          Gallery 1938-45. Served with Scots Guards Second World
