John Eaves
b. 1929 (BAA 1952-79)


Born in Bristol. 1949-52 BAA. 1952 began teaching BAA
full-time, at first taught pottery with James Tower. 1955
exhibited Willis Galleries, Bath, with BAA colleagues. 1958
became Director of part-time courses, based Sydney Place,
Bath. 1963 one-man ceramics exhibition at Forum Galleries,
Bristol and 1964 New Vision Centre Gallery, London. 1966
one-man exhibition of paintings at Arnolfini, Bristol; awarded
Winston Churchill Memorial Trust Fellowship to work as
painter and travel in New Mexico. 1967 one-man exhibition
at Richard Demarco Gallery, Edinburgh. 1968 exhibited John
Player Biennale and subsequent group exhibitions. One-man
exhibitions: 1970 Bristol City Art Gallery; 1977 & 1984
Dartington College of Arts; 1979 & 1982 Park Street
Gallery, Bristol; 1984 Newlyn Art Gallery, Cornwall. 1985
completed two murals Cafe Grün, Bremen, West Germany.
1986 group exhibition Schaller Galeria, Stuttgart. 1986/87
awarded Leverhulme Emeritus Fellowship to study Emile
Nolde and complete series of paintings, North Germany.
1987 retrospective Victoria Art Gallery, Bath; exhibited The
Prediger. Schwabisch Gmünd. West Germany.
