part-time; taught puppetry to teacher-training students, often
combining with Music Department (under Henry Boys) for
performances. Drew inspiration from many sources including
Javanese puppets, Greek vase painting, English medieval
manuscripts. Believed puppetry could be ‘a vivid way of
exploring many aesthetic problems’ and could be ‘a fruitful
means of linking different school subjects’. Her book
Puppetry Today Studio Vista, 1966, called by Ellis ‘her
testament as a teacher’, was illustrated by many of her
Corsham projects. Also taught watercolour and illustration.
1965 Retired. 1971 presented survey of Professional
Puppetry in England, commissioned by The Arts Council;
1973 led an experimental Puppet Workshop, held at The
Central School of Speech and Drama. 1979 One-man
exhibition of watercolours at the New Grafton Gallery.
