Clifford Ellis was a pioneer in the syllabus he devised for Corsham in 1946. The first year’s study of materials and techniques was to be taken up for the ‘Foundation Course’ as a preliminary to the Diploma in Art and Design (Dip A.D.) course introduced into art schools in the 1960’s. The broad range of non-’art’ subjects including literature and music became a model for 'complementary’ studies for the Dip. A.D.
